Schema Markup

When testing a product on Google's structured data testing tool, it is saying that The property $699.00 is not a valid price specification. I'm guessing becuase there is a "$" sign? Does one need the source code to remove the $ sign? Has any one else come accross this?

This is how it is currently structured on the product page I tested:

<meta itemprop="price" content="$699.00"/>
