Hide category from navigation?

Is there a simple way to hide a certain category page link from navigation? My website is set to display all categories in a drop down. I'd like to create categories that don't necessarily need to be displayed.

Thanks for your help.

Do those categories need to be accessible elsewhere than the menu?  In search results, direct links, etc?  If they can be completely hidden, you can just set Published to No on each category, and they'll be visible in the admin console but hidden on the front end.

Ideally these categories would be accessed like any other page on the site, but just not published in the navigation.
Any ideas? The category should be accessible to the user via direct link and nowhere else.

We want to create timely category pages in order to feature timely promotions, product lines, etc. But we don't want a user to find them anywhere on the site except from where we point to it.
I'm trying to do the same in v9.5.1.0.

I've added a column to the category table to hide/show the category but I can't seem to find where to filter it in the TOPIC control that seems to be populating the categories.

Control:   <aspdnsf:Topic runat="server" TopicName="Template.VerticalNavigation" />

Any suggestions?

I've figured it out. I've added an IsHidden column to the category table. Then added "and IsHidden=0" to the aspdnsf_EntityMgr stored procedure.

Any luck with doing this in v10.0.5?
